Glossier

Glossier was born in 2014 in New York from the beauty blog Into The Gloss, which Emily Weiss had launched four years earlier. The brand built its reputation on direct sales and a pale pink aesthetic, before shifting toward retail distribution, including Sephora. Its fragrance Glossier You, released in 2017, remains the cornerstone of a range that includes several flankers.

A blog turned brand

Emily Weiss opened Into The Gloss in 2010, a site where she interviewed models and makeup artists about the products they used. Four years later, she drew from it a skincare and makeup brand sold online, whose promise fits in one sentence: skin first, makeup after.

The brand grew without a physical network for several years, carried by an online community and venture capital funding. It entered Sephora in the United States and Canada in 2023, a move that also brought it to France, and opened its own stores in New York, Los Angeles and London.

Glossier You, the house fragrance

Glossier You was released in 2017. The house presents it as a skin fragrance rather than one built for sillage, based on ambrette, iris root, pink pepper and ambroxan. Its composition is credited to Frank Voelkl and Dora Baghriche, two perfumers at Firmenich, both named by the Fragrance Foundation and the brand's journal.

The range has expanded into variations on the same accord, Fleur, Rêve and Doux, as well as solid formats and body mists. Frank Voelkl also created Santal 33 for Le Labo, and Dora Baghriche Mon Paris for Yves Saint Laurent.

A brand in retreat since 2025

Emily Weiss stepped down as chief executive in May 2022 and retained the chairmanship of the board; Kyle Leahy succeeded her, before leaving in turn at the end of 2025. Colin Walsh, former head of Procter & Gamble's specialty beauty division and of Ouai, took over as chief executive in October 2025.

The turnaround undertaken under his leadership cost a third of the workforce in February 2026 and the closure of nine of twelve stores. The brand secured in June 2026 a forty-five million dollar credit line from Tiger Finance.
