Perfumery is a sector belonging unquestionably to the world of luxury. What is more, fragrances are most often associated with emotions and fall under a subjective appreciation such as one might apply to a work of art. Thus, many perfumers are first and foremost artists. Such is notably the case of perfumer Dora Baghriche. She is passionate about contemporary art and cultivates her love of beautiful things through her many fragrant creations. She says she never tires of the surprise created by the many facets of her profession, a profession that, according to her, suits her perfectly.
The career of Dora Baghriche
Dora Baghriche was born in Algiers but very quickly left her native land to move to the south of France. She grew up in the Grasse region, the world capital of perfumery. After training in this familiar world through a training program within the company Firmenich, she joined the Parisian team of this company devoted to fine fragrances. There, she had the chance to develop perfumes for the biggest houses such as Cacharel, Olfactive Studio, Salvadore Ferragamo and Versace. Likewise, Dora Baghriche always tries to combine her passion for perfumery with her passion for art. In this respect, she recently created a perfume for Blobterre, an exhibition for children held at the Centre Georges Pompidou, by designer Matali Crasset.
The signature of Dora Baghriche
Dora Baghriche says she draws her inspiration from various places around the world of which she keeps an indelible memory. In this respect, even though there are many places that serve as creative sources for her, she has made the frangipani trees filling the evening air in Angkor one of her favorite scents. Nevertheless, lemon and orange blossoms are likewise Mediterranean elements that happily remind her of her childhood. Above all, Dora Baghriche believes that perfumery is a field in which one must please oneself. For her, no lapse in taste is more significant than that of following trends at all costs. Dora Baghriche creates her fragrances as she sees fit and has no wish to make absolutely what everyone else wears.
Generally speaking, Dora Baghriche-Arnaud is a fairly independent perfumer, free as air and incorporating a strong dose of intuition into each path she takes. Such is, in any case, the philosophy that applies to her perfumery.
