The result was a perfume with a warm presence, carrying within it the density of black, the exuberance of gold and the voluptuousness of beige touches — all elements highly prized by Gabrielle Chanel in her collections. More specifically, Coco was an oriental and spicy juice combining orange blossom with peach, blackcurrant bud, jasmine, rose, sandalwood, tonka bean and benzoin.
2001: Coco Mademoiselle, a more streamlined perfume
In 2001, Chanel decided to address a new generation of women, focusing on a completely different facet of Gabrielle Chanel's personality: her taste for white, simplicity and graphic, streamlined contrasts. Thus, this perfume was a real transformation. It was then a more fruity and chypre juice, incorporating new, unprecedented ingredients derived from synthetic notes newly discovered in perfumery. Coco Mademoiselle has remained ever since a perfume adored by women, built around a silky heart of patchouli, paired with peach, rose and jasmine, while being freshened with orange and bergamot.
2020: Coco Mademoiselle L'Eau Privée, a more intimate perfume
This time, in 2020, the formula of Coco Mademoiselle L'Eau Privée preserves the DNA of its predecessors while softening its former power. More than ever, the focus is on tenderness, softness and intimacy. As perfumer Olivier Polge states, its composition is made like a watercolor, giving off an immediate sense of calm. The raw materials of Coco Mademoiselle have been preserved. Thus, rose and jasmine are still present. Coco Mademoiselle L'Eau Privée is also freshened with citrus. Here, however, it is mandarin. Finally, its former woody notes have been considerably softened to make more room for a persistent yet light sillage of white musk.
From then on, the composition of Coco Mademoiselle L'Eau Privée is described as a softer version of the Chanel saga. If this juice is still oriental, it is more volatile and ideally travels across the skin at nightfall, once night has fallen.
