Chance

Jacques Polge has delighted, since his beginnings as the house's dedicated perfumer, in turning the finest olfactory values of his venerable house Chanel into beautiful modern forms. Coco, Egoïste, Antaeus, or Allure as well, thanks to Jacques Polge, Chanel renews itself constantly without losing its historic aura. Chance, the lovely floral with multiple faces released in 2003, was composed by Jacques Polge as a hymn to the originality and exuberance of the great Gabrielle Chanel.

For the house of Chanel, Jacques Polge constantly innovates and dares the finest pairings between classic, distinctly Chanel flowers and brilliant new fruity, woody, or musky raw materials. Allure, some years earlier, had for instance exhaled some previously unseen oriental facets. Chance would do the same, offering scents that, like Allure, would present themselves under multiple guises.

With Chance, Jacques Polge wanted to highlight the superstitious quirks of the great Gabrielle Chanel; this is, moreover, one of the reasons the bottle was presented in the form of a wheel of fortune. But the lady's fancies would not be visible only on the Chance bottle, they would also be tamed within its composition.

Ever fond of the most refined flowers that Chanel has showcased across many creations, Jacques Polge does not hesitate to add to Chance some lovely fruity notes, which he had already put to good use in Coco Mademoiselle or Allure Femme as well. Thus the perfumer created Chance with absolute respect for his house's traditions while adding brilliant novelties that could only win us over. I think about the space that Chanel perfumes occupy, I try to define territories where no one else is, and based on what already exists elsewhere, I try to make combinations that lead to a perfume, confided Jacques Polge.

I believe there is also a particular quality of precious materials that any so-called luxury house should use. Besides, if one chooses a known theme and rewrites it with our materials, it already smells a bit like Chanel. For Chance, the perfumer therefore, as is his habit, used the finest raw materials to offer a heart adorned with floral jewels. Thus absolute of jasmine, rose and hyacinth occupy the heart of Chance while being accompanied by what could be called Polge's signature touch of originality: a sweet and exotic pineapple note. Yet in both the top notes and the base notes, Chance innovates with lovely tangy, sharp freshness as well as with irresistible gourmand vanilla depths.

One last original touch from the master Polge, he added a large quantity of white musks to the depths of Chance in order to envelop all these lovely flowers in a soft chypre cloud, once again inscribed, through its bottle, in the lovely family of new chypres opened a few years earlier by Coco Mademoiselle.
