Where to buy

Cristalle was released a year after the death of Gabrielle Chanel, in 1974. The house likes to say that Mademoiselle would undoubtedly have loved this composition, that she would have particularly loved the lightness of its sillage like a rose at dawn… Pure and limpid, Cristalle is the symbol of a promising youth.

Cristalle, the clarity of innocence

Cristalle is defined as a fresh-floral fragrance, a fragrance of refined elegance. Upon its release, this fragrance was called Cristal. It was quickly renamed Cristalle to match the ultra-feminine image emanating from it. Cristalle therefore undeniably belongs among the flowing waters, thanks to its freshness, but not only that. Cristalle possesses all the brilliance of a flowing water along with, in addition, the exemplary longevity of an Eau de Parfum. Cristalle is limpid and sparkling with joy. Its freshness and spontaneity make Cristalle a timelessly young and refreshing fragrance. The youthfulness contained within Cristalle does not make it any less a rare and resplendent fragrance… A true success, since in 1993 Jacques Polge would revisit Cristalle to create a more sensual fragrance. Then, in 2004, Chanel would unveil Cristalle Eau Verte, still just as young and innocent, but a touch greener.

The lively and delicate notes of Cristalle

Cristalle opens on an extremely invigorating burst with the presence of Sicilian lemon and bergamot. These notes are paired with a honeysuckle accord. The heart is floral and green, combining jasmine, narcissus, hyacinth and ylang-ylang. The base is woodier and elevates the entire composition with the presence of patchouli, oakmoss and vetiver. Lightness and depth harmonize here to perfection, giving Cristalle an extraordinary dimension. The bottle, meanwhile, remains in the same style as those of the Chanel house, understated, similar to Chanel's eaux de toilette. In a square glass column, the juice reveals its full transparency. It is topped with a black cube, outlined in silver, which adds a further touch of elegance.

Because Cristalle was released just a year after Coco Chanel's death, it had to be an exceptional fragrance, a composition she would have adored. Fresh, subtle, limpid and so present, Cristalle is the fragrance of youth. A delicious and magical youth, more than promising. This fragrance, which resembles flowing water, is fresh-floral, and the blend of scents is subtle. This nectar symbolizes the eternal youth of women, the one that slumbers within each of them.

Olfastory’s review

Because nature is an inexhaustible source of creativity and emotion, all the greatest luxury houses draw inspiration from it to craft fragrances. Thus, with a simple breath, fragrances manage to take us on a journey, whether to the other end of the world or close to home, for a moment of sharing or a simple breath of fresh air. This is how Chanel imagined the Cristalle fragrance, in 1974. A great classic of women's perfumery, it charms with its refined elegance and its fresh, floral breath. Here is our review of Cristalle by Chanel.
