Alien was released in 2005, thirteen years after Angel, for which Mugler was seeking a successor. Dominique Ropion and Laurent Bruyère built it on three revelations that the house declares: a luminous, honeyed sambac jasmine, cashmeran wood and a white amber. The talisman bottle, faceted like an amethyst, is refillable.

The bottle is cut in facets, like an amethyst, and set with claws that give it the look of a jewel. The house makes it a talisman, a stone charged with an energy it calls soothing, and declines it throughout the line.
It is refillable, which was rare in 2005: Robin noted at launch a refillable 30 ml spray bottle and a 60 ml refill bottle, whereas Angel required bringing the bottle back to the store.
