The house launched in the 1970s by Milanese designer Giorgio Armani began in perfumery with the lovely, fresh feminine fragrance Armani Femme. Yet, despite the thwarted desires of a man in love with women, it was with a masculine fragrance that the house of Armani entered the pantheon of perfumers in 1996, as Acqua di Gio brought that wind of virile, marine notes that everyone had been waiting for.

The 1990s saw the end of the reign of ultra-virile men scented with Drakkar Noir or the dark essences of Azzaro pour Homme. In this new era, men were looking for more natural, more elegant scents, and perfumer Alberto Morillas understood this perfectly when composing Acqua di Gio for them.
Acqua di Gio is that marine, fresh fragrance that showed men they could wear aromatic and fresh scents without losing any of their virility or dynamism. Acqua di Gio is of course also the cornerstone of those fragrances that exude Cologne-type notes with flawless modernity.

However, this did not stop the beautiful marine fragrance from continuing to captivate through flankers endlessly reworked to a high standard, sometimes playing on freshness to modernize it with beautiful sensuality, as with Acqua di Gio Profumo, sometimes bringing out the sensuality of the base notes with Acqua di Gio Absolu or indeed Acqua di Gio Absolu Instinct.

The perfumer who created Acqua di Gio, Alberto Morillas, readily admits that with each new bottle in the Acqua di Gio line, he deliberately sought to “forget” the original accord in order to offer a genuinely new fragrance each time. The idea behind an Acqua di Gio fragrance is above all to embody escape, vacation, without necessarily staying within freshness.
Thus, in recent years, with Acqua di Gio Absolu and Acqua di Gio Absolu Instinct, the original marine note has endured, but now sits alongside woody forces never before explored in an Acqua di Gio.
Nevertheless, we are pleased to find the marine note again in the top notes of this fine Acqua di Gio Absolu Instinct, accompanied by invigorating, very fresh bergamot and lemon. At the heart, patchouli opens the doors to its realm, while the seaweed note brings both an unprecedented marine strength and a touch of green freshness. Finally, the depths of precious wood anchor the base of this fine Acqua di Gio Absolu Instinct with intense warmth.
