This lovely 1932 is meant as a particular tribute to the famous diamonds that Gabrielle Chanel had the audacity to exhibit in 1932, when she was still just a “stylist”! One more audacious move from the designer, now magnified by this lovely fragrance of remembrance.

1932, a fragrance paying tribute to Gabrielle Chanel’s only jewelry collection

As the stock market crash of 1929 caused the value of many precious stones to plummet, Gabrielle Chanel had the idea of using these diamonds to create a magnificent jewelry collection, which she would exhibit in 1932.

I wanted to cover women in constellations. Stars! (…). See these comets whose head will shine on a shoulder, and whose sparkling tail will slide behind the shoulders to fall in a shower of stars onto the chest… Gabrielle Chanel on her Bijoux de Diamants exhibition in 1932.

All the greatest jewelers of Place Vendôme envied Coco’s audacity, preferring to be jealous of her rather than admire the beauty and originality of her creations. Although these jewels have all since disappeared today (Gabrielle Chanel was forced to dismantle them after the exhibition), the house of Chanel chose to pay tribute to its founder’s creativity by reproducing them for an exhibition in 2012. To celebrate this event properly, Jacques Polge created 1932, drawing inspiration from the diamond, the star of Chanel’s only jewelry collection.

1932 is therefore a faceted fragrance that plays with the different faces of jasmine, at times tonic, at times dazzling, immersing the wearer in the heightened luminosity of a fragrance crafted like a precious jewel.

When jasmine becomes the fragrance’s “diamond”, Jacques Polge creates 1932

Jasmine, for Jacques Polge, is to fragrance what the diamond is to jewelry… the essential. Moreover, the house of Chanel has almost always used this lovely flower in its fragrances, sourcing it from its finest cradle, the lands of Grasse of course! It is notably thanks to the worldwide success of N°5 that this lovely jasmine continues to be cultivated in these legendary lands. Naturally, then, Jacques Polge used this raw material so dear to the house of Chanel to transcend it and bring it to life in all its finest facets.

First, 1932 opens on sparkling, dynamic notes of bergamot punctuated by the famous aldehydes so characteristic of Chanel, the diamond turns lively. Then, at the heart, the diamond captures the olfactory lights of delicate white flowers, neroli, ylang-ylang, jasmine of course, but also rose. A small touch of originality from the perfumer, iris brings to this luminous 1932 a hint of powdery notes, deliciously retro and very feminine. Finally, the olfactory diamond turns velvety and clothes the woman in its softness, enveloping her in a woody-gourmand sillage of vetiver and benzoin, and a very animalic touch thanks to ambrette, opoponax and coumarin.
