Where to buy
Paying tribute to a pivotal date in the house's history, it has sublimated the masculinity of its green, fresh scent for 30 years now. To celebrate this anniversary, Cerruti decided to create a new interpretation. So, what is the new invigorating breath of 1881 Silver? What does Cerruti conceal in its gray, contemporary bottle? Here is everything you need to know.
1881 Silver, a fresh, woody scent celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of Cerruti's fragrance
1881 Silver celebrates the 30th anniversary of the fragrance 1881, created in 1990. In fact, this fragrance recalls the founding date of the house, when the Cerruti family settled in Biella, in the Italian Piedmont. It was ultimately the founder's grandson, Nino Cerutti, who decided to commemorate this major event with the release of a fragrance, also intended to convey the raw freshness of water gushing from rock, in a truly fresh and typically Mediterranean effervescence.
Today, 1881 Silver is quite different from its predecessor. Its creation was entrusted to perfumers Alienor Massenet and Maurice Roussel, of Symrise. Together, they crafted an infinitely modern aromatic and woody fougère. Here, everything begins with an aromatic, peppery alliance of ginger and basil. These striking top notes are then softened by florals. Lavender blends with geranium from Réunion Island, for a slightly peppery yet highly sensual effect. Gradually, masculinity takes over in a woody base of patchouli and amber. These high-quality ingredients also enhance the longevity of this fragrance. The result is a tenacious, refreshing and seductive fragrance.
Cerruti's unchanged bottle
Although the fragrance 1881 is currently celebrating its 30th anniversary, it must be acknowledged that its bottle has not aged one bit. Still very contemporary, it required no major change. Cerruti therefore chose to keep its visual intact. It is worth recalling that this is a thick glass cube, a mark of its charisma and virility. Its irregular walls, meanwhile, give the impression that the glass was carved directly from rock. The number 1881 appears in relief on the front face, while the full name is inscribed in anthracite gray on the side walls. The whole is topped with a small cylindrical matte metal cap. Understated and refined, this bottle already promises to endure for many more decades.
Starting from the base notes, the dated animalic facets have been replaced with vibrant amber woods, for a contemplative sensuality. A high-quality patchouli and an exclusive green basil were used to further enhance the fine ingredients of the formula. The classic ylang-ylang has been rebalanced and worked with precious Madagascar geranium to highlight a more modern fougère aspect. A bright touch of juicy pineapple and fused natural spices gives the fragrance a natural, immediate hook. This is how the creators themselves describe this fragrance.
