Cerruti, a brand with an Italian heritage
In fact, the history of Cerruti began in 1881 thanks to Nino Cerruti's grandfather. He founded a wool spinning and weaving factory and set it up in Biella, Italy. Very quickly, this company saw its fabrics used to make numerous suits for ready-to-wear or made-to-measure brands. Thus, eager to keep perfecting their craft, the Cerruti workshops created their own research laboratory, multiplying technical innovations. Nevertheless, the Cerruti brand as we know it today only came into being in 1967. Nino Cerruti began launching his own men's collections that year. He was convinced that elegance rested on clothes in which one feels comfortable. Building on his heritage, he developed different finishing techniques as well as new yarns. This was the key to his success. Likewise, it was also impossible to separate Nino Cerruti's life from the seventh art. Thus, his many friends from the film industry also helped make his name shine through the clothes worn in numerous iconic films. As an anecdote, the Cerruti workshops produced around 330,000 pieces of tailoring reserved exclusively for cinema each year. Cerruti then launched a line of women's creations in 1976. Perfumery came just a little later, in 1978.
Cerruti's elegant fragrances
Because a refined outfit is nothing without a fragrance, Cerruti began developing its own scents. Success followed. Moreover, Cerruti 1881 pour Homme quickly became a legend of men's perfumery. Its iconic bottle in raw sandblasted glass as well as its emblematic juice of refined masculinity became must-haves. Likewise, its feminine counterpart soon made a name for itself, and its floral and woody scent quickly won over the many lovers of elegant, natural fragrances.
Since December 2010, the Cerruti house has been owned by Trinity, a distribution subsidiary of the Chinese group Li & Fung Group. Aldo Maria Camillo has held the position of artistic director there since April 2012. Cerruti's business sectors are also very numerous today. The house is devoted, among other things, to three ready-to-wear lines: Cerruti 1881 Paris, a very luxurious and glamorous range, Cerruti 1881, a more classic and traditional line, and 18CRR81 Cerruti, a more denim and casual assortment. Likewise, all of this is complemented by collections of accessories, leather goods, watches, eyewear, writing instruments and fragrances.
