It all began in 2003, when the house of Hermès asked Jean-Claude Ellena, its official perfumer, to create a pared-down fragrance, in the same vein as the previous Eau d'Orange Verte. This is how the very first Jardin d'Hermès came to be. At that time, it was a unisex fragrance inspired by the Mediterranean. Since then, however, this saga has grown considerably. In 2022, the tradition continues and a new arrival joins the Hermès lineup: Un Jardin à Cythère.
Born in Grasse to a perfumer father, Jean-Claude Ellena has always been deeply attached to the world of scents. It must be said that he grew up at the heart of the Mediterranean basin, right in the midst of the world capital of perfumery. It was therefore only natural for him to pay tribute to this part of the globe when he imagined the first Jardin d'Hermès, the founding fragrance of a great collection. In 2022, the story continues and Hermès gives birth to Un Jardin à Cythère. Let yourself be carried away by this unisex fragrance and let's discover its superb bottle together.
Hermès's emblematic lantern-shaped bottle
Un Jardin à Cythère by Hermès is presented in the brand's historic bottle. It has a sturdy, imposing look. This heavy, luxurious glass block bears the signature of designer Fred Rawyler, who has worked with the house on numerous occasions throughout its history. He set out to slightly modernize this historic case. As a side note, it is inspired by a carriage lantern of times past. Indeed, as a reminder, Hermès first made its name as a saddler and harness maker. The brand has therefore always been intimately linked to the world of horsemanship as well as to travel. Un Jardin à Cythère by Hermès is a new escape. Its bottle, meanwhile, is a nod to its rich heritage.
When the bottle of Un Jardin à Cythère is enhanced with a sun-kissed glow
All the Jardins d'Hermès are presented in identical bottles. What sets them apart? Their color! Un Jardin à Cythère by Hermès, for its part, is enhanced with a sublime yellow gradient. Naturally, this echoes the sun-kissed, summery spirit of the Ionian Islands, to which Cythera belongs. Yellow is very present at the base. It is also reflected just below the neck, which is further enhanced with a thin satin ribbon. Incidentally, it should also be noted that there is no better color than this one to echo the luxurious world of Hermès. Yellow is not only the symbol of the sun. It is also that of gold…
The scenery of the island of Cythera graces the packaging of the Hermès fragrance
Finally, the scene is set from the very first sight of the packaging of Un Jardin à Cythère. This perfume bottle comes in a cardboard box decorated with a drawing. This illustration is the work of the artist Elias Kafouros, from Greece, who has worked with Hermès on numerous occasions, notably for the decoration of several silk scarves. Here, various colorful elements stand out against a white background. The scenery depicts a field of olive trees with grass turned blond by the heat. The blue of the sea contrasts with the rest of the landscape, while a pistachio tree branch stands out in the foreground with its alluring pink buds.
As for sizes, Un Jardin à Cythère by Hermès is available in three spray bottles, in formats of 30, 50 or 100 ml.
