In 1937, the brand designed the Hermès carré, a 90x90 silk scarf that was immediately adopted by numerous celebrities. On the fragrance side, Hermès entered the arena in 1951 with Eau d'Hermès. In 1998, Hermès unveiled a masculine fragrance with a somewhat unusual name, Rocabar.

In the 20th century, an English craftsman nicknamed the wool blankets used to cover horses rugs à barres. Hermès, then specialized in these equestrian accessories, gradually transformed the name into rocabar. The power of Rocabar's olfactory notes

It was the nose Gilles Romey who conceived this fragrance in 1998. There is no doubt that it was inspired by a spirited and powerful horse, in love with freedom. Rocabar is a spicy woody scent meant to be lively and warm. Rocabar opens on fresh and invigorating notes with bergamot and lemon. These are then joined by spices, mugwort and coriander, which heighten the energy. The heart is majestic, made of noble woods such as Italian cypress and Atlas cedar, along with violet flower and iris, which lend a great deal of masculinity to the whole. The base is at once sensual, soft, and enveloping thanks to the presence of vanilla, benzoin, patchouli and oakmoss. The first bottle was square and imposing. The rocabar blanket, tied with a leather strap, wrapped around the glass bottle, itself encircled by a strap embedded into the glass. Its gun-barrel cap evoked a polo helmet... Today, the Rocabar bottle is among Hermès's classic bottles, inspired by the lanterns of old-fashioned horse-drawn carriages. Having become an iconic Hermès bottle, these are all endowed with a sober and beautiful elegance.
