Phantom Parfum is the dark version of Rabanne's Phantom line, composed in 2023 by Juliette Karagueuzoglou, Anne Flipo and Dominique Ropion. Aromatic and woody, it opens on bergamot, lemon, rhubarb and cardamom, brings together lavender, geranium, patchouli and cedar, and closes on vanilla pod, Tolu balsam and vetiver.
Critics are divided on what the Parfum version adds to the original. A British retailer praises a richer vanilla base and longevity of more than eight hours; a blogger judges it barely better than the eau de toilette, and less distinctive than it.
Olfastory’s review
Judgments first compare Phantom Parfum to the original Phantom eau de toilette, and do not agree on the benefit of the new version.
Richer, more long-lasting
Escentual's editorial team describes a sweet, almost tart opening, where rhubarb is discernible from the start, a clean and luminous heart, less fresh and less earthy than the original, and a base where vanilla, reinforced, joins vetiver. It could still be smelled after eight hours, and the team judges the robot more mature since its move to matte black.
An improvement judged marginal
For The Scented Devil, the perfumers mainly added spices, rhubarb and wood to the original formula. The result seems a little more pleasant, but not more luxurious than promised, and more boring than the original; it notes a rubbery smoke that it also finds in Pasha Parfum by Cartier.
