Juliette Karagueuzoglou's beginnings in perfumery

From a very young age, Juliette Karagueuzoglou loved smelling and describing the scents around her. In fact, she remembers certain people more by their scent than by their appearance. It was at the age of 13 that she discovered the world of perfumery. Indeed, her aunt worked at Christian Dior and told her about Dune, a fragrance that was then about to launch. Juliette Karagueuzoglou looked into the subject and decided to make fragrance creation her main focus. She first discovered the profession of nose by reading books on perfumery, then directed her studies toward it. She then completed numerous internships with perfumers. Having earned a degree in chemistry, she entered ISIPCA, a highly regarded graduate school of perfumery located in Versailles, in the Yvelines region. There, she spent two years as an apprentice at Expressions Parfumées, in Grasse, the world capital of perfumery. This is how she learned to recognize the main raw materials and to describe them. She also owes much to her internship supervisor, who tested her every evening to train her olfactory memory. Indeed, according to her, perfumers have a certain innate sensitivity to scents, but owe their talent mostly to an enormous amount of work. Once she earned her degree, she joined IFF, one of the world leaders in perfumery.

Juliette Karagueuzoglou's career

When she joined IFF, Juliette Karagueuzoglou assisted perfumers. She then began working independently on fairly simple, small projects. She had the good fortune to receive valuable advice from the greatest perfumers, refining her knowledge and thinking over time. IFF then sent her to New York for a year-long training program at the international perfumery school. This is how she became a junior perfumer and began working on her own projects. To develop them, Juliette Karagueuzoglou likes to draw on her childhood memories and strives to strike a chord with as many people as possible. Her favorite pastime is revisiting great classics and modernizing them. She takes pleasure in reinventing a cult fragrance to create something new while preserving its main note.

Although the perfumery industry does not include many women, Juliette Karagueuzoglou is one of its leading figures. We owe her many captivating creations, including, among others, L’Homme Ultime by Yves Saint-Laurent and Repetto's Eau Florale. She says she thus contributes to the richness of perfumery, which, in her view, is a profession born of the diversity of cultures, personalities, and life experiences.
