Phantom Parfum is the dark version of Rabanne's Phantom line, composed in 2023 by Juliette Karagueuzoglou, Anne Flipo and Dominique Ropion. Aromatic and woody, it opens on bergamot, lemon, rhubarb and cardamom, brings together lavender, geranium, patchouli and cedar, and closes on vanilla pod, Tolu balsam and vetiver.
Citrus, rhubarb and cardamom
The top note pairs bergamot and lemon with a rhubarb accord and cardamom. Rhubarb brings a vegetal acidity, cardamom a spicy freshness, and together they give the opening its bright, slightly tart tone.
A lavender trio
The second tier rests on a lavender trio, surrounded by geranium, cedar and patchouli. Geranium adds a rosy, green nuance; patchouli and cedar give the accord its woody structure.
Vanilla, Tolu and vetiver
Vanilla pod, Tolu balsam and vetiver make up the base. Vanilla and balsam round out the whole with a resinous sweetness, which vetiver dries with its woody, earthy notes.
What the label declares
The label confirms the aromatic structure: linalool, a major constituent of lavender, and coumarin, a hay and tonka bean odor long associated with lavender, are among the first substances declared. Limonene and citral extend the citrus, geraniol and citronellol the geranium.
Alpha-isomethyl ionone, an iris and violet facet, does not appear among the notes. The list also carries a UV filter, a light stabilizer and three colorants, violet, blue and yellow, which tint the juice.
