Le Male Essence de Parfum: a classic revisited with elegance and virility. Le Male by Jean Paul Gaultier celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2016. In order to bring modern-day, new-millennium elegance to this major perfumery success, Quentin Bisch was commissioned to create a new fragrance around it.
Jean-Paul Gaultier is a renowned designer who never goes unnoticed. He is known for his boldness and exuberance. And while for a very long time this was expressed in the fashion industry, it also revolutionized men's perfumery. Moreover, everyone today knows the iconic fragrance Le Male. Thus, on the strength of its incredible success, it was reinterpreted in 2016 as Le Male Essence de Parfum.
Jean-Paul Gaultier's 90-degree turn
While Le Male Essence de Parfum seems to be perfectly in keeping with its predecessors, in reality it marks a very clear turn for the Jean-Paul Gaultier brand. Indeed, the Spanish group Puig recently acquired the perfume license for this brand from Beauté Prestige International. As a result, the latter decided to change the brand's strategy and to refocus solely on Jean-Paul Gaultier's two star fragrances, which are also the most profitable, namely Le Male and Le Classique. This is how the new Le Male Essence de Parfum came into being. Although it has undergone several revisits, this new interpretation appears by far to be the most different of them all. This time, Le Male has been revisited with extreme sophistication. It is thus rooted more broadly in the world of haute perfumery. It must be said that after 132 revisits since its release in 1995, it needed to stand out! Le Male Essence de Parfum thus appears as a sort of luxury version of its predecessor. Of course, the foundations are still present, but the whole this time reveals itself as a hyper-chic essence of the soul.
The carnal aspect of Le Male Essence de Parfum
The first version of Le Male was created by the talented perfumer Francis Kurkdjian at the very beginning of his career. That first fragrance highlighted the typically masculine scent of lavender, evoking for Jean-Paul Gaultier the scent of old-fashioned barbershop soaps. Le Male Essence de Parfum, for its part, is the work of Quentin Bisch. He started from the base of the 1995 Le Male and reworked it as a leather that would be like suede, soft, velvety, and that smells of skin. Thus, Le Male Essence de Parfum comes across as more carnal than before while respecting the following structure: cardamom on top, lavender at heart and vanilla at the base. Likewise, the fragrance's aesthetic has also been completely revisited. Nevertheless, there was no question of abandoning Jean-Paul Gaultier's famous bust. Le Male Essence de Parfum simply presents itself with far sharper lines. Its once frosted glass has given way to more transparency. The sailor top, for its part, has now completely disappeared in favor of a bare silhouette letting us glimpse broadly defined pectorals and abdominals. Finally, note that Jean-Paul Gaultier's famous tin can as a case is still part of the package. It has simply been reworked with more of a copper tone than before.
