Eternity

Calvin Klein resonates in perfumery through its global, timeless success, CK One of course. But the perfume house had already shown it could offer magnificent fragrances before its bestseller, including Obsession, the very first, and Eternity in 1988. Eternity already held within its bottle the beauty of unprecedented accords; this magnificent feminine fragrance with its striking contrasts also seems to carry a taste of eternity.

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Eternity's commercial launch, it finally became possible to learn the secrets of its creation. For Eternity by Calvin Klein is not only the precursor of a revolutionary CK One, it is a powerful, contrasted fragrance, its composition worked on for months by Sophia Grojsman, the specialist in timeless fragrances of the era, creator notably of Trésor and Paris.

At the beginning of the Eternity project stood a beautiful symbol of love: the wedding band worn by Calvin Klein's wife. Engraved inside with the word Eternity, the ring of love also carried the symbol of a more scandalous story, since it had previously belonged to the Duke of Windsor, the British rebel. Calvin Klein wanted Sophia Grojsman to design a fragrance worthy of this beautiful story.

The perfumer, a lover of roses, thus used her talents to develop a composition based on the alchemy of opposites. However, it would later be learned that Calvin Klein rejected a first proposal that lacked character to his taste, ultimately accepting the second, which would become Eternity, the very symbol of love and rebellion.

Eternity: the contrast between rose-violet accords and sandalwood-amber accords

Eternity is therefore not the proper fragrance one might assume, quite the contrary. In fact, it stands as a symbol of the break between the candid floral fragrances of the 90s (Trésor…) and the opulent perfumes of the 80s (Opium, Poison…). Eternity stands at the crossroads and does not hesitate to play with its floral splendor to better enchant with its spicy, woody depths.

Sophia Grojsman thus designed for Eternity a green, fresh opening with notes of mandarin, bergamot and clary sage, better preparing the way for its floral heart of majestic roses, jasmines, lilies of the valley and lilacs. It should be noted that Sophia Grojsman used, for the first time in this heart of Eternity, a reconstruction of freesia by headspace technology.

So many flowers to evoke feminine tenderness and softness. But carnation comes to pierce this precious heart with its vivid, spicy scent, tinting it with a touch of boldness. A boldness that becomes even more pronounced in the writing of Eternity's sillage, which plays on the opulence of heliotrope to carry us into a mysterious, sensual breeze of sandalwood, amber and white musks.
