Calvin Klein launched Eternity in August 1988, three years after Obsession. Sophia Grojsman, of IFF, composed its white floral bouquet, heightened with spicy, woody and green notes, which the house links to a wedding band engraved “Eternity” given by Calvin Klein to his wife. Christy Turlington, photographed by Bruce Weber, was its first face.

The Eternity bottle was designed by Pierre Dinand with Calvin Klein, like that of Eternity for Men a year later. Dinand had already signed the Obsession bottle in 1985; he gave Eternity straight, sober lines that let the juice show.
For System Magazine, which interviewed Pierre Dinand about his sixty-year career, his hand can be recognized in the oblong shape and tortoiseshell tones of Eternity, still as contemporary as when they came out.
