A dissonance

For Victoria Frolova, who devoted a Bois de Jasmin review to Dior Addict in May 2008, the more she smells it, the more she admires it, and the more she realizes she will never be able to wear it. The contrast between a languid floral oriental and an assertive dry chypre fascinates her, but makes the fragrance very sharp.

Beneath conventionally feminine notes of vanilla and white flowers, she discovers a rather masculine construction of woods and incense: a tartan skirt that turns out to be a kilt, as she puts it.

Wasser’s touch

She returns to the fragrance upon the announcement that Thierry Wasser is joining Guerlain and finds in Addict his favorite palette, orange blossom, vanilla, tonka bean and oriental resins, with a result she judges closer to Tom Ford’s audacity than to Guerlain’s baroque.

From the top, she detects basil and cinnamon against the heady sweetness of orange blossom, jasmine and ylang-ylang, and a heart that sets vanillic, resinous notes against dry, ambery woods. Ambivalent, she would rather be intrigued by a fragrance than bored.

The 2014 version

In March 2023, Persolaise reviewed the eau de parfum sold since 2014, which he considers fairly faithful to Wasser’s work. He sees in it one of the perfumer’s most festive compositions: green at the top without any coldness, woody and flirtatious at its heart, carried by an outsized vanilla.
