Burberry launched Body on September 1, 2011, in more than 150 countries. Michel Almairac composed a modern rose: green absinthe, peach and freesia at the top; rose absolute, iris and sandalwood for the heart; cashmeran, vanilla, amber and musk in the base. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, photographed by Mario Testino in a satin trench coat, was its first face.
Burberry divides Body into three stages: fresh green absinthe, luminous peach and delicate freesia at the top; natural rose absolute, iris and warm sandalwood for the heart; woody cashmeran, creamy vanilla, amber and musk in the base. Chant Wagner already cited this list in 2011, with a cashmere wood.
Absinthe gives Body its signature. Wagner recalls that this very nineteenth-century note keeps a bitter, dark edge; it lends the rose a strange energy, which takes it away from the snapshot of an English garden rose and pulls it toward green.
The reviewer also notes what the list does not name: spicy accents of mace in the opening, an ambery, resinous facet close to myrrh in the base, and a touch of vanilla that softens the power of the rose absolute.
