Epices Exquises
Travel is an endless source of inspiration for artists of every kind, starting with perfumers. And the house of Guerlain is no exception to prove otherwise. The five generations of perfumers who have led the house have all been drawn to the discovery of distant lands, and more specifically to the East. It is precisely to pay tribute to this that the Absolus d'Orient collection came into being. In 2023, it is enriched with a new juice named Épices Exquises.

Guerlain's love for the East
Although Guerlain is a French house, it also displays a close and intimate connection with the East. Moreover, this is nothing new. In 1925, Jacques Guerlain was already drawing on this part of the globe to create the timeless feminine perfume Shalimar. It is precisely to evoke the dream of discovering these distant lands that the Absolus d'Orient collection came into being. It brings together precious perfumes based on bewitching balsams, rare woods, warm spices and exotic essences. Épices Exquises is like a window opened onto this lavish world.
Épices Exquises, the evocation of an oriental tradition
Épices Exquises by Guerlain recalls a memory and a tradition typical of the oriental world. The perfumer explains that he wanted to render the surprising scent of the irresistibly spicy whiffs of cardamom coffee […] a spice blend so singular that it fills the memory with delightfully contrary sensations. Indeed, Middle Eastern custom dictates that visitors be offered white coffee flavored with green cardamom, as a gesture of hospitality. It is precisely this atypical scent that inspires this perfume.
The highly contrasted breath of Guerlain's Épices Exquises
Épices Exquises by Guerlain elevates precious spices and plays on contrasts. Indeed, with it, everything rests on a play of light and shadow. On one side, the refreshing facets are played up in overdose. These bring together cardamom, pink pepper and green angelica. To counterbalance this lightness, Guerlain opted for other, warmer spicy notes, such as black pepper, paired with woods. Épices Exquises by Guerlain ends with a marriage of sandalwood, patchouli and oud wood. The coffee creates the link between these two facets.
The Bee Bottle takes on oriental decor
Épices Exquises also clearly evokes the oriental world through its bottle. Indeed, Guerlain's legendary Bee Bottle resurfaces, decorated with arabesques on its label. Its golden cap, meanwhile, recalls the rounded summits of certain oriental monuments. The burnished tones of this glass case are similar to those of spices or to the ochre tone of desert dunes. The magic works instantly. This design is meant to feel especially warm. What is more, it is also ergonomic. Its generous shape nestles perfectly into the palm of the hand. Finally, this bottle is also embellished with a trim ribbon fastened at its neck.
