Spiritueuse Double Vanille

Jean-Paul Guerlain composed Spiritueuse Double Vanille, which Guerlain launched in 2007 as a limited edition. In January 2008, Robin Krug, of Now Smell This, described it as sold in a seventy-five-milliliter eau de parfum; Victoria Frolova, of Bois de Jasmin, recounts its later entry into the permanent collection.

A Guerlain vanilla

Guerlain makes vanilla a signature material and a pillar of the Guerlinade. Thierry Wasser, the house perfumer, recalls that Jean-Paul Guerlain’s grandfather had already dazzled the world with the overabundance of vanilla in Shalimar; he sees in it an ode to the Indian Ocean.

The house now places it in L’Art & La Matière, its collection of exclusive fragrances, among woody ambery scents. It compares it to a canvas by Paul Gauguin from his Tahitian period, and sells it in fifty, one hundred and two hundred milliliters.
