Melon
Melon belongs to the large cucurbitaceae family. Its origin is disputed. Indeed, some claim it comes from Southern Africa, others from India, and others believe it comes from Asia… Not very sweet in its early days, melon was considered a vegetable. Its flavor refined little by little. At the end of the 16th century, melon cultivation was very widespread in the south of France. Because of its many seeds, melon symbolizes fertility. The quality of melon is judged by its flavor, its scent and the texture of its flesh. Melon is thirst-quenching and refreshing. Moreover, its sugar content does not exceed 11%.
Melon, a new olfactory richness
Melon brings to fragrance a fruity, sweet flavor as well as an aquatic tonality. It is used in fragrances for both men and women. Melon notes are very often paired with other fruits such as peach, which reinforces the sweet aspect, or such as blackcurrant, which instead brings a bitter and deep aspect. Melon is part of great fragrances, even though in some of them its presence is not suspected! This is the case for Champs-Élysées by Guerlain. Here, melon is part of the top notes along with peach, anise and violet. This fragrance is floral and brings touches of cheerfulness and good mood. It is a fragrance designed to seduce. Moreover, melon or watermelon is widely used in summer fragrances. Such as Acqua di Gio by Gorgio Armani, which smells of summer vacations at the beach, sun and leisure.
Melon, unexpected pairings
Melon is found in unexpected pairings, but also very little-known ones. With rose, vanilla and sandalwood, melon brings its soft, sweet freshness as in Chiemsee woman two by Chiemsee. Here, the composition is romantic, and the fragrances are soft. Another unexpected pairing is that of champagne, watermelon and chocolate mousse… No, this is not a new dessert, but indeed a fragrance! One could easily be mistaken… Besides its sweet side, melon also brings gourmand notes. This fragrance is called Something Sweet by Lise Watier. Equally unexpected, the baby fragrance by Dolcé & Gabbana… For our little cherubs, the house designed a blend of honey, lemon and melon. This little sweetness was designed for babies, but also for their mothers, since one does not go without the other! Melon thus offers scents for the whole family.
An unlikely flavor in fragrance composition, melon is gradually carving out a place for itself. It seduces through its sweet, fresh, refreshing, juicy and fruity side. Paired with fruity, woody or aromatic fragrances, melon is ready to surprise us. It can blend perfectly into a summer fragrance, with other fruits or citrus, and even into a baby fragrance… It is undeniable, melon still has beautiful fragrances ahead of it!
