Shalimar Souffle de Parfum

Shalimar Souffle de Parfum is the eau de parfum Thierry Wasser composed for Guerlain in 2014, a lighter reinterpretation of Shalimar. Bergamot, lemon and mandarin in the top, sambac jasmine and orange blossom water absolute at the heart, Indian and Tahitian vanillas and white musks in the base make up a tender, warm and enveloping fragrance.

Angela, on Now Smell This, considers the freshness of Shalimar Souffle de Parfum contrary to the spirit of Shalimar, despite its remarkable presence; The Candy Perfume Boy finds it perky and likeable, without seeing a necessary link with the original.

What critics say

Now Smell This, August 2014

Angela, who loves the original, finds that Shalimar Souffle strays from it. Its fresh, ozonic opening, designed for a wider audience, seems to her a mistake: Shalimar, she says, has never been about freshness.

She praises its commanding presence and remarkable longevity, but misses the mystery that gives the original its worth, as if a femme fatale were dressed in Laura Ashley.

The blogger does not find the link with Shalimar clear enough, or even necessary. Judged on its own, the fragrance strikes him as comfortable, perky and likeable, without convincing him enough to buy a bottle.
