Shalimar Millésime Tonka is the limited-edition eau de parfum that Guerlain devoted in 2022 to the tonka bean, a variation on the 1925 Shalimar. Thierry Wasser and Delphine Jelk open it with bergamot, almond and rum, set it on a heart of iris, sambac jasmine and rose absolute, and blend it into tonka bean, vanilla and opoponax.
The tonka line
The house divides the composition into three tiers: bergamot, almond and rum at the top; iris, sambac jasmine and rose absolute in the heart; tonka bean, vanilla and opoponax in the base. Now Smell This gives the same list of materials.
The tonka bean plays the leading role: the house credits it with a scent of powdery almond and caramel, and places it in the base, with vanilla and opoponax.
