Pleats Please, the beauty of pleats. A Japanese designer trained in the workshops of Parisian haute couture, Issey Miyake founded his company in Tokyo in 1970, Issey Miyake Design.
After the undisputed and indisputable success of L’Eau d’Issey and its lovely flankers, Issey Miyaké chose to move away from sobriety and transparency toward gaiety and movement with Pleats Please. Pleats Please of course echoes the master's beautiful draped creations, but above all seeks to send out waves of happiness through scents sparkling with the joy of living.

The lovely sobriety of L’Eau d’Issey managed, from the house of Issey Miyaké’s very first perfume, to give an image of qualitative and above all highly selective perfumery. Indeed, the legendary Eau d’Issey did not only manage to shake up the trends of 1980s perfumery by offering scents at the opposite end of the opulent perfumes of the era, it created a new current, a new trend rooted in cleanness and chic.
The same holds true for the famous Pleats Please haute couture collection, since far more than simply launching draped garments that elegantly and lightly follow movement, Issey Miyaké turned it into a current, a timeless fashion, a mark of his presence in the grand history of fashion. In order to celebrate this now iconic collection, Aurélien Guichard and Issey Miyaké chose to develop the fragrant composition of Pleats Please in perfect harmony with this poetry of movement.
Translating the vision and reinterpreting fashion means expressing joy with an opening note of nashi (Japanese pear), then conveying the abstraction so dear to the master through notes of fragrant wood and peony, then the movement of pleats with cedar and patchouli. Designed like a work of haute couture by Aurélien Guichard, Pleats Please aims to be the perfume of the smile as much as the perfume of movement. As the perfumer explained, each raw material was chosen to represent Issey Miyaké’s artistic and cultural universe.
We are thus hardly surprised that Aurélien Guichard chose a nashi pear, a distinctive small Asian pear between the scents of apple and pear. Then the slightly spicy sweet pea joins the peony to form a delicate yet sparkling floral heart. The animalic power of indole, a substance contained in jasmine, lends its strength to the heart. Finally, patchouli, Atlas cedar and woody notes bring their touch of mystery to lovely gourmand vanilla accents. These depths appear as though captured by soft white musks, offering warmth and comfort to the happy woman of Pleats Please.
