Opium Eau de Toilette

Opium Eau de Toilette, a sulfurously addictive fragrance. Today, the house Yves Saint Laurent is the international leader in luxury fashion. Since 1961, when the designer founded his house, success has never left him, and yet YSL was not the perfect couturier.

Opium by Yves Saint Laurent is a legendary fragrance in women's perfumery. Created in 1977, it was aimed at women of character, unafraid to surprise and to provoke controversy. Moreover, it is precisely for this reason that this perfume bears a name with a distinctly illicit connotation. Regardless of what people might say, Opium can boast of having sold out almost instantly after its release. Since then, its success has never waned. Today, the myth is reinvented, with the release of Opium Eau de Toilette. Here is our review of this new edition.

Olfastory’s review

Opium Eau de Toilette, a new edition but an unchanged message

Opium Eau de Toilette is a new olfactory version of this legendary scent, slightly less powerful than before, but just as captivating. Moreover, its message remains the same. Opium Eau de Toilette exalts mystery and sensuality. Its power of attraction remains perfectly intact and its illicit connotation is very much present. Yves Saint Laurent explained that if he chose Opium as the name, it was because he intensely hoped that, through all its incandescent powers, it could release divine fluids, magnetic waves, heartthrobs and the charms of seduction that give rise to mad love. And that is precisely everything found in this feminine Eau de Toilette. Far removed from political correctness, it is a perfume synonymous with dependence, and that is undoubtedly precisely where part of its success lies.

The new bottle of Opium Eau de Toilette

As for the bottle, Opium Eau de Toilette offers an entirely new visual, more modern than before. While drawing inspiration from the first Opium bottle, the Eau de Toilette's design trades its nylon plastic for amber, slightly transparent glass. Its window becomes more central and more imposing, while glowing with a golden-colored juice, like a blazing sun. From then on, Opium Eau de Toilette seems to burn with an inner fire, which only makes it more captivating.

The floral and suave recipe of Opium Eau de Toilette

Opium Eau de Toilette becomes fresher than its predecessor. However, its main elements have been preserved. Thus, it is still built around a heart of carnation and jasmine, safeguarding the DNA of the Opium collection by Yves Saint Laurent. At first, mandarin and bergamot freshen its scent, while combining with a more springlike lily of the valley. Myrrh completes its heart with a more gourmand note, quickly followed by a sensual vanilla paired with amber. Patchouli and opoponax finish off this perfume with a woodier scent. Opium Eau de Toilette manages to renew itself and become less heady, while preserving the undeniable charisma and the fiery personality of its predecessor. With such ingredients, both in terms of scent and design, it must be said that Opium Eau de Toilette is a genuine success.
