N°5 Eau de Toilette

Launched by Gabrielle Chanel in 1924, N°5 eau de toilette is a warm, lively version of the fragrance Ernest Beaux created in 1921. Ylang-ylang and neroli, heightened by aldehydes, open onto a base of vanilla, vetiver, and sandalwood. In 2026, Chanel reissued it in a rectangular bottle inspired by the one from 1924.

A compact rectangle with a magnetic stopper, reissued in 2026 after the original design of the 1924 eau de toilette.

In 2026, Chanel reissued N°5 eau de toilette in a bottle with streamlined geometry, inspired by its original 1924 design. Clear glass, pared-down proportions, no superfluous ornament: the house wants the bottle to step aside in favor of the fragrance.

Sylvie Legastelois, director of packaging creation and graphic identity for Chanel fragrances, says she wanted to recover the original rectangular design. The rectangle becomes more compact, the spray is redesigned, and the stopper becomes magnetic.

The eau de toilette thus keeps a silhouette distinct from that of the extrait, whose cut stopper evokes a diamond. The house’s historic graphic codes remain in place on the glass.
