Legend

The Montblanc Legend perfume Montblanc was originally a family business more specialized in the design of writing instruments than in perfume. Nevertheless, its excellence, the quality of its materials and its craftsmanship were enough to quickly establish its reputation.

Where to buy

Building on this success, the Montblanc brand decided to expand its activity by enhancing its various accessories with the wearing of a perfume. A true undisputed icon of the luxury world, Montblanc thus decided to name its 2011 perfume in its own image: Legend.

The prestige of the house of Montblanc

Montblanc is a name that has sounded like a concentrate of expertise and quality since its creation, in 1906 in Hamburg. The brand combines countless qualities such as inspiration, virtuosity and elegance. Moreover, while this is embodied in one of its most famous writing instruments, the Meisterstück pen, it can also be felt in each of its perfumes. What is more, despite its now age-old history, the house of Montblanc has managed to evolve with its time, gradually rising to the very highest peak of excellence. Montblanc has become an icon of refinement known throughout the entire world. If writing was its first way of expressing itself, perfume is a continuation of its legendary history. And what better way to pay tribute to it than by naming it Legend. This fragrance seems perfectly rooted in the history of the house. It is in no way provocative and presents itself soberly, with sensuality. It favors elegance far over arrogance and speaks to a man who is serene, determined and naturally classy.

The timeless freshness of Legend

It was the perfumer Olivier Pescheux who took on the difficult task of symbolizing the image of the house of Montblanc in the form of a perfume. The scent of Legend opens with a strong, ardent freshness combined with an aromatic touch. Lavender, a major ingredient in men's perfumery, thus mingles with the liveliness of bergamot. Likewise, litsea cubeba, an exotic variety of verbena, brings its aromatic facet here. Then, as if that were not enough to energize daily life, the liveliness of Legend is further heightened by the presence of evernyl, a synthetic molecule reproducing the scent of oakmoss, at once green, sensual and deep. Geranium then brings the elegance of a rose while adding a touch of spice. This modernizes the whole while giving it more character. Finally, everything ends with a smooth, comfortable base resulting from the combination of tonka bean and sandalwood. The whole is housed in a bottle that is reminiscent of the aesthetic of Montblanc pens. It has a timeless shape and the emblematic codes of the brand. Heavy and soft to the touch, it recalls the sensation of holding a Montblanc writing instrument. Dressed in deep black contrasting with a metal band, the whole is topped with a silvery cap bearing in relief the emblematic six-pointed star of Montblanc.

Olfastory’s review

Since its creation in 1906, the house of Montblanc has been a guarantee of excellence. Synonymous with quality, it is above all famous for its lifetime-guaranteed pens and its unrivaled expertise in the field of writing. For more than a century, Montblanc has signed revolutionary creations, intended for elegant and conquering men. Today, it is precisely all these values that are also found in its perfumery. Since 2001, Montblanc has established itself as one of the most prestigious perfumers on the planet. In reference to its own journey, Montblanc presented a fragrance named Legend in 2011. Bearing such a name is ambitious. Does the masculine fragrance Legend live up to it? Here is our review.

The advertising

Released in 2011, Legend is a fragrance that reconnects with the true values of the Montblanc brand. Legend is an elegant, sober and sensual perfume that brings a touch of seduction to naturally charismatic men. It was the perfumer Olivier Pescheux who created the composition of Legend. It combines lavender with bergamot, with a heart that is at once floral (rose, geranium) contrasted by cedarwood, the whole being enhanced by tonka bean and ambroxan. Its deep black bottle is paired with the metal of the cap, offering a final touch of elegance.

A charismatic Legend advertisement in black and white

In order to best respect the values of the house of Montblanc, the advertisement was shot in black and white, the brand's signature colors. Around the face of the campaign, the advertisement plays with light with great finesse. It shows close-ups of the Montblanc man's face, then of his hands, strong and beautiful. To represent the Legend fragrance, the Montblanc brand chose the model Simon Clark. The advertisement lingers on his hands, his fist conveying an image of power. Then, the Legend bottle emerges from the darkness, appearing in a beam of light. The music for the advertisement was composed specially for the occasion. It is the work of the renowned composer Gaspar Claus. The music reinforces the sense of fullness that the whole advertisement conveys.

Simon Clark, face of the Montblanc Legend campaign, a man of charismatic power

Simon Clark is a little-known British model. Since 2011, he has been the face of the Montblanc perfumes Legend and Legend Spirit. At 50 years old, Simon Clark has nothing to envy in his younger colleagues. Charismatic and self-assured, he has an almost hypnotic gaze. Simon Clark is signed with numerous modeling agencies, in Toronto, New York, Paris and London, and walks the runway for several luxury brands. In the Legend advertisement, he wonderfully embodies the values of the Montblanc brand.

With Legend, the house of Montblanc wished to reconnect with its origins and its craftsmanship. Elegant, sober, yet ultra charismatic, the Legend man has it all. The advertisement reveals this strength through his face and his fists, which appear in close-up shots. Simon Clark, the English face of the campaign, also asserts his presence between sensuality and power. All of this, of course, in the brand's signature colors, black and white.
