The flawless career of Olivier Pescheux

It was at the age of 10, after watching the film Le Sauvage with Yves Montand and Catherine Deneuve, that Olivier Pescheux set his mind on becoming a perfumer. He directed his studies accordingly and earned a DEUG in chemistry. He then entered the prestigious perfumery school in Versailles, ISIPCA. Once he had his diploma, Olivier Pescheux worked for Annick Goutal (a house now run by her daughter under the name Camille Goutal). He then left the house to join the Japanese fragrance company KAO. However, it was more particularly at Givaudan that he excelled and revealed his true talent to the world. He worked, among others, for Dior, Lanvin and Hugo Boss. Today, Olivier Pescheux works only for prestige houses and is one of the small thirty or so French perfumers who have this privilege. Olivier Pescheux continues to refine his technique over time and works on his fragrances like a composer, endlessly adjusting their harmonies. His creativity and perseverance earned him the Prix International du Parfum award in 2010.

Olivier Pescheux seems capable of translating any atmosphere into a fragrance. Thus, he manages to bring out every brief initially given by his clients. For him, the art of perfumery is similar to that of music and he states that a fragrance is composed the way a score is written. To do so, Olivier Pescheux uses more than 1000 odorous molecules. He combines them endlessly until reaching a kind of ideal. He says he sometimes carries out more than 1000 trials before arriving at a satisfactory result. Moreover, Olivier Pescheux is a creator who describes himself as being in perpetual quest of authenticity. For him, this is a very important value on which he bases every new creation. Thus, each of his fragrances emanates from a particular memory. Olivier Pescheux enjoys combining the immense variety of synthetic ingredients with natural molecules so as to develop original olfactory harmonies.

Among his most celebrated works, Olivier Pescheux is one of those who developed the fragrance 1 Million by Paco Rabanne. Likewise, he has collaborated many times with the company Dyptique. Lastly, we owe him the exquisite scent of Arpège pour Homme by Lanvin, a fragrance reinventing itself 80 years after the appearance of its cult counterpart for women.
