Gucci Bamboo

Gucci Bamboo is an eau de parfum for women launched by Gucci in 2015, named after the bamboo of the house’s bag handles, heated and bent since 1947. This woody floral opens on bergamot, brings together Casablanca lily, ylang-ylang and orange blossom, and rests on sandalwood, Tahitian vanilla and an ambergris accord.

Gucci launched Bamboo in the summer of 2015, as an eau de parfum in 30, 50 and 75 ml, accompanied by a scented body lotion, shower gel and deodorant. The name refers to the 1947 Bamboo bag, whose handle of heated and bent bamboo became an emblem of the house.

The house justifies the name with an analogy: slender and elegant, bamboo withstands hurricanes and compares to steel in strength. The Gucci woman is said to share this blend of firmness and grace, which the perfume translates into a composition that is both soft and intense.

Gal Gadot became its face in April 2015, her first major contract with a luxury house. Bamboo is still sold today as an eau de parfum, and an eau de toilette of the same name extends the line alongside the original version.

What critics say

Robin (Now Smell This) sees Bamboo as a clean, demure floral musk with a touch of powder, which she finds less playful than Flora and much less original than Gucci by Gucci or Gucci Première.

Gal Gadot, a woman of many facets

Gal Gadot embodies the Bamboo woman in 2015, in a film directed by Fabien Baron and photographs by Mert & Marcus.

In April 2015, Gucci announced that Gal Gadot, a former Miss Israel then awaited as Wonder Woman on screen, would be the face of Bamboo. It was her first major contract with a luxury house, and the actress says she approached the campaign like a film role.

Fabien Baron’s film, unveiled in July 2015, shows a woman moving from a sporty daytime look to an evening gown and mastering every situation, over a voiceover that compares her to bamboo. The campaign photographs are by Mert & Marcus.
