Gucci Bamboo

Gucci Bamboo is an eau de parfum for women launched by Gucci in 2015, named after the bamboo of the house’s bag handles, heated and bent since 1947. This woody floral opens on bergamot, brings together Casablanca lily, ylang-ylang and orange blossom, and rests on sandalwood, Tahitian vanilla and an ambergris accord.

Robin (Now Smell This) sees Bamboo as a clean, demure floral musk with a touch of powder, which she finds less playful than Flora and much less original than Gucci by Gucci or Gucci Première.

What critics say

Now Smell This: a demure floral musk

Robin, on September 11, 2015, describes a soft, clean floral, almost ethereal, brushed with a creamy powder. The lily dominates for a few minutes and raises hopes of a full-blown lily scent, before fading into a base of pale, slightly sweet musk.

She finds this base less woody and less warm than expected, and places Bamboo among modern floral musks that are demure and ladylike, neither too strong nor too sweet. She judges it less playful than Flora and much less original than Gucci by Gucci or Gucci Première.

She thinks most enthusiasts will find it too dull and too proper, and would be surprised if it became a big success, while inviting those who like it to prove her wrong.
