As early as 1947, Christian Dior became passionate about this continent, a land of immense riches for both a great couturier and a great perfumer. A few years later, in 1962, Christian Dior presented, in a grand palace in Bombay, a haute couture collection entirely inspired by the designer's Indian and continental influences. At a time when fashion was hardly open to foreign influences, Dior charmed and delighted his Indian and French clients with this flamboyant collection of Indian colors and Parisian elegance. In 1997, John Galliano too experimented with ethnic mixes under the Dior label, pairing models dressed as princesses adorned with splendid, luxurious Maharajah jewels.

Christian Dior also took an interest in India in his search for his greatest passion: flowers, of course. It is precisely on the continent of the Maharajahs that Dior found the most precious harvests of the famous sambac jasmine or sandalwood, which would clothe Dior's most spectacular perfumes such as Miss Dior, then Poison, or J'adore.
