Despite the two wars, the house of Van Cleef & Arpels imposed its style, elegant, refined and feminine. Crowned heads competed for their collections. It was in 1976 that they launched into the world of perfumery with First, a fragrance that has become legendary. In 2011, the house presented Precious Oud, an essence that is part of the very select Collection Extraordinaire.

Oud, a very mysterious scent

Oud is a rare and noble raw material that comes to us directly from the Orient. Oud wood is found mainly in Asia. Originally, oud was used for its medicinal and spiritual properties. Only two or three varieties of tropical trees of the Aquilaria genus produce oud wood. It is believed that about one tree in a hundred possesses this famous resin, a defense mechanism secreted by the tree when it is infected by certain fungi. This gives it a particular rarity and a very high price. It is said that in the Orient, oud is more expensive than gold. Oud is currently highly prized by perfumers around the world. It is therefore oud that Van Cleef & Arpels decided to honor with Precious Oud. This name states just how precious oud is. To highlight its beauty, oud is paired with floral touches.

Oud, a legendary ingredient

It is Amandine Marie who created this exceptional fragrance. Precious Oud is defined as a woody floriental composition. Precious Oud opens with the freshness of bergamot. This is joined by olibanum and pink pepper, which bring their spicy touch. The heart abounds with notes of jasmine and tuberose, which pair judiciously with incense. Finally, the sillage of Precious Oud is warm, amber and deliciously sensual. Oud is blended here with patchouli, vetiver and sandalwood. The bottle follows the codes of all the bottles in the Collection Extraordinaire. Rectangular in shape, the bottle features a black cylindrical cap. A silver-colored band encircles the neck, attached with a cord. On the label, the name of the fragrance appears along with a number corresponding to the trial number selected by the house. A bottle of great sobriety.
