Eau de Campagne

Eau de Campagne: The first perfume by the house of Sisley The house of Sisley was created in 1976 with the release of its very first perfume, Eau de Campagne. Far from the classics of perfumery or the advertising of the time, Isabelle and Hubert d'Ornano innovated by offering a natural, chic perfume with no pretension beyond being a fresh, bucolic fragrance.

A great classic of perfumery, Eau de Campagne is the first perfume by the house of Sisley. Released in 1976, Eau de Campagne runs counter to the fashion of its time. It is even said that Eau de Campagne is a consensual essence, so different is it from other perfumes of the late 1970s. While Eau de Campagne stands apart, it remains nonetheless a family fragrance, affectionate and sun-drenched. It plunges us, indeed, into the heart of the countryside, as its name suggests, on a beautiful spring Sunday.

Eau de Campagne: a natural and chic essence created by Jean-Claude Ellena

Jean-Claude Ellena was born in Grasse, and his father was also a perfumer. It is fair to say that various scents accompanied him throughout his childhood. He created his first composition at the age of 28, First by Van Cleef & Arpels, and the success of this essence propelled him into the spotlight. Eau de Campagne is Jean-Claude Ellena's second major creation. He is a highly gifted perfumer who favors short, refined formulas. Bold and something of a magician, Jean-Claude Ellena ranks among the greatest perfumers of his time. Since 2004, Jean-Claude Ellena has been the in-house nose of the house of Hermès, and to him we owe some very beautiful fragrances, chiefly Terre d'Hermès, L'Ambre des Merveilles and Kelly Calèche by Hermès.

A garden of the Hesperides in the Eau de Campagne bottle

With Eau de Campagne, Isabelle and Hubert d'Ornano, the founders of the brand, invite us into their intimacy. Natural, Eau de Campagne is a bucolic essence resembling a garden of the Hesperides, where the greenness of crushed leaves mingles with the bracing freshness of citrus. Eau de Campagne unfurls on fresh, aromatic notes. Indeed, the top notes combine the citrus freshness of lemon and bergamot with the aromatic freshness of basil. Galbanum then intensifies this freshness, bringing its scent of freshly cut grass. The heart is original, as it pairs flowers such as jasmine and lily of the valley with tomato leaf, a true surprise and the signature of Eau de Campagne. Finally, the base of Eau de Campagne is at once chypre, woody and musky, combining oakmoss, patchouli, vetiver and musk, lending the whole an until-then unspoken sensuality.

The very first perfume by the house of Sisley, Eau de Campagne tells of an intimate summer Sunday, where one lunches with family beneath a gentle sun that delicately caresses the skin. Between floral and citrus tonalities, tomato leaf provides the great surprise of this composition signed by Jean-Claude Ellena.
