Bleu de Chanel Parfum, launched in June 2018, is the third concentration in Chanel’s men’s line, after the 2010 eau de toilette and the 2014 eau de parfum. Olivier Polge keeps the outline of Bleu and gives more room to the woods: lemon zest, lavender and geranium rest on cedar and New Caledonian sandalwood.
At launch, Chanel announced five materials: lemon zest, lavender, geranium, cedar and New Caledonian sandalwood. Chanel does not assign them to tiers and now speaks of a fresh opening and a precious woody accord centered on sandalwood.
A reading by tier
Thomas Dunckley reads the lemon in the opening, lavender and geranium in the middle of the composition, where they give the fragrance a more aromatic turn than the eau de toilette, and cedar and sandalwood in the base, more present than in the two older concentrations.
What the label declares
The ingredient list Chanel publishes has forty-five entries. Right after the word parfum comes a synthetic woody molecule, tetramethyl acetyloctahydronaphthalenes, ahead of water. The five announced materials appear by name: lemon, lavender, geranium, Virginia cedar and sandalwood, along with santalol.
The label also names bergamot, bitter orange, orange blossom, jasmine, rose, patchouli, peppermint and vanillin; among the allergens to be declared are limonene, linalool, citronellol, coumarin, citral, geraniol, eugenol and farnesol. It also lists three colorants.
