Interlude Man

Incense, olibanum, opoponax and cistus make up the resinous heart of Interlude Man, where the camphor, wax and spice of incense meet the balsamic warmth of opoponax. Composed by Pierre Négrin for Amouage in 2012, the Eau de Parfum claims chaos and disorder as its inspiration and rests on a base of smoky leather, earthy patchouli and velvety sandalwood.

Composition

Top

Bergamot opens the accord. This citrus, whose essence is obtained by expression of the peel, carries fruity and sweet facets here, held by a clean freshness that brightens the first moments of the composition before the arrival of the resins.

Heart

Four resinous materials make up the heart. Opoponax, a gum related to myrrh, brings warmth, balm and a vanilla nuance; cistus, from which labdanum is drawn, evokes amber, wood and resin. Incense reads camphoraceous, waxy and spicy, olibanum woody, mineral and spicy.

Base

Leather gives the base a smoky, tarry tone close to tobacco. Patchouli, a dried and distilled leaf, adds an earthy, damp tonality flecked with camphor, while sandalwood wraps the whole in velvet and warmth.

Family

Woody, the main orientation rests on sandalwood, patchouli and the ligneous facets of cistus and olibanum, essences drawn from trees, leaves and resins, dry or creamy. The secondary spicy touch comes from the piquant nuances of incense and olibanum.

What the label declares

Among the declared components, limonene and citral belong to the citrus family, echoing the bergamot; linalool, geraniol and citronellol fall under floral and rosy notes. Eugenol and isoeugenol recall clove, cinnamal and cinnamyl alcohol recall cinnamon, in connection with the spicy facet; coumarin evokes cut hay.
