Lalique pays tribute to its Libellule brooch with Illusion Captive

Illusion Captive is a perfume from the Noir Premier Collection. Each fragrance in this collection is housed in a bottle whose glass walls draw inspiration from Lalique's finest jewelry pieces. All the perfumes in the Noir Premier Collection are thus presented in the Quatre Aigle bottle, designed by René Lalique himself in 1911. Illusion Captive is no exception to this rule. However, a small novelty appears on its walls. It is embellished with a golden glow forming a sort of cracked pattern. This motif is also found on its cardboard box, in darker shades of black and gray. This design is directly inspired by the wing pattern of Lalique's famous Libellule brooch. Thus, Illusion Captive is a tribute to Art Nouveau, deeply inspired by nature and emblematic of Lalique.

Illusion Captive is a particularly rich and complex perfume. It owes its existence to perfumer Karine Dubreuil-Sereni and brings together within its single breath multiple noble raw materials emblematic of perfumery. Illusion Captive opens on a fruity freshness of bergamot and fig. Sambac jasmine, for its part, illuminates the heart of this perfume with its floral opulence. However, it is tickled by the more spicy and blazing presence of cinnamon. Finally, the base of Illusion Captive is ultimately built on numerous woods such as patchouli, cedar and cistus. Vanilla, tonka bean and myrrh finish enveloping it all and only heighten the sensuality of this juice.

As seen previously, Illusion Captive is a fragrance from the prestigious Noir Premier Collection. Far more than a mere assemblage of perfumes, it is a true tribute to Lalique's finest creations and to the landmark dates of its history. Initially, the Noir Premier Collection consisted of five fragrances. Each of them was associated with a key date in Lalique's history. Today, Illusion Captive symbolizes the year 1898. As a point of interest, it was precisely in that year that René Lalique settled into a glassmaking workshop on the Clairefontaine estate, in the Yvelines. This move allowed him to expand his workshops and develop the blown glass technique.
