The legendary story of Shalimar begins in 1925. At that time, Jacques Guerlain traveled to India and fell in love with the Taj Mahal and the gardens of Shalimar. Because it represents a true love story, Shalimar is the pledge of an eternal love. Rich in emotion, Shalimar has managed to endure through the years and the trends. In 2015, Thierry Wasser, the in-house perfumer of the house Guerlain, decided to revisit the iconic fragrance by bringing more freshness, lightness and modernity to it with Shalimar Cologne.

It was Jacques Guerlain who created the first Shalimar. In 2015, Thierry Wasser decided to revisit the legend as Shalimar Cologne, a luminous, fresh and dynamic fragrance. Thierry Wasser succeeds 4 generations of Guerlain perfumers. He regards his mentor, Jean-Paul Guerlain, as an affectionate father figure who guided him for many years. Thierry Wasser is a perfumer who is both rare and singular, sensitive, and to whom we owe exceptional fragrances such as Mon Guerlain, Idylle, and also Hypnose by Lancôme.
The fresh and sensual notes of the perfume Shalimar Cologne
While Thierry Wasser kept the soul of Shalimar, he nevertheless wanted to bring more freshness and above all a breath of modernity. Shalimar Cologne opens on fresh, citrus notes such as lemon, bergamot and grapefruit. The heart evolves toward a softer and more feminine character. Indeed, it combines a perfect bouquet of flowers, freesia, rose, jasmine, which offers a perfect balance between freshness and sensuality. The base is noble and sensual, as it combines iris absolute, vanilla, patchouli, amber as well as white musks. Iris absolute is one of the most expensive materials in perfumery. Iris is a delicate flower, and it is its roots, the rhizomes, that are used to obtain iris absolute. The latter is one of the ingredients behind the success of powdery notes, notes that recall the rice powders once used by our grandmothers. As for white musks, they are reproduced in the laboratory using synthetic molecules, and they were created mainly as an alternative to tonkin musk. Called white musks in contrast to animalic musks, they release multifaceted scents. At once woody, ambery or fruity, white musks also give off a clean scent. Highly valued in perfumery, white musks are also used because they envelop the other ingredients, acting as a bonding agent.
