Jardins de Bagatelle

Jardins de Bagatelle is the floral eau de toilette Jean-Paul Guerlain composed in 1983, in tribute to the Château de Bagatelle and its gardens in Paris. The current version, reissued in the Les Légendaires collection, brings together bergamot, a heart of jasmine, neroli and gardenia, and a base of tuberose and wood.

Guerlain launched Jardins de Bagatelle in 1983. Jean-Paul Guerlain composed it, inspired by the Château de Bagatelle and its gardens, on the edge of the Bois de Boulogne in Paris.

The Bagatelle wager

The château was born of a wager between Marie-Antoinette and the Comte d’Artois, younger brother of Louis XVI: to build it in sixty-four days. With the wager won, the château, nicknamed the Folly, and its gardens became a symbol of romanticism.

The house’s narrative

Guerlain intends Jardins de Bagatelle for a free, independent woman who seeks to seduce and to savour the very pleasure of seduction. The house describes it as a luminous, airy and sparkling fragrance, built on a heart of white flowers.

Les Légendaires

The house now presents it in its Les Légendaires collection, which gathers creations by five generations of Guerlain perfumers, as an eau de toilette and an eau de parfum.
