Released in 2001, Higher seems like a fragrance of a new kind, as if it were the fragrance of the new millennium. Both aromatic and woody, Higher is the fragrance of the urban man of the new millennium. Streamlined and stripped of all embellishment, Higher conveys a new, powerful spirit. Nevertheless, Higher represents more than that, as if it were a true link between perfumery and haute couture, just as Miss Dior is. Higher, which means “higher,” speaks to self-fulfillment in an urban world.
A duo of perfumers behind the Higher fragrance
Christian Dior chose a duo of perfumers to create this fragrance of the new millennium. Born in Paris, Olivier Pescheux had the opportunity to join the prestigious perfumery school, ISIPCA. The Givaudan company hired him in 1998, where he composed for the greatest houses, as he states, a perfume is composed the way a score is written. In 2001, the Dior house asked him to create Higher; Olivier Pescheux recalls, when I think back to the elements of the initial brief, the terms were elevation, energy, momentum... It should also be noted that Olivier Pescheux received a Fifi Award in 2002 for composing Higher. Olivier Gillotin also took part in composing Higher. Olivier Gillotin was born in Brittany and studied biology. He has also worked for the Givaudan company since 1999. Olivier Gillotin regards every fragrance as a work of art, and states, a fragrance is a work of art in which harmony must operate within a specific space and time. Olivier Gillotin is behind many successes, such as Tom Ford Noir by Tom Ford and Reveal Men by Calvin Klein.
Higher by Dior, a men’s composition for a new millennium
Original and unexpected, the composition of Higher embodies the man as he lives in the present. Higher opens with a blend of fruit, such as pear, aromatic notes such as basil, and citrus, such as lemon. The fruit of the pear tree, pear originates from Central Asia and already grew in the wild. There are hundreds of pear varieties, and depending on each one, pear can be more or less juicy, with flesh that is more or less firm. In perfumery, pear releases fruity, green or delightfully sweet tonalities. The heart of Higher is spicy and aromatic, containing cardamom, rosemary and cypress. Cardamom is a plant that has been used since time immemorial in Ayurvedic medicine. Cardamom is a rhizomatous herbaceous plant native to Southeast Asia. In perfumery, cardamom offers camphorous, zesty or aromatic tonalities.
