Christian Dior's maritime memories in a precious and fresh Granville

With its Collection Privée, launched in 2009, the house of Dior sought to gather the most beautiful bottles meant to tell its story and the past of its charismatic founder Christian Dior. While the journeys of this collection often stop at the couturier's dreams of the Orient and his haute couture memories, it is also a way to discover, through scent, the refuge paradises of this adored and effervescent creator.

Granville, a lovely town on the rugged Normandy coast, saw Christian Dior born and living in his villa perched atop the cliffs, aptly named Villa Les Rhumbs. Set upon the rocks, the couturier's residence offers a unique view of the sea and inspired him greatly, both for his couture creations and for his first fragrances.

Naturally, François Demachy chose to recreate, through powerful yet contrasting accords, this unique place of life, at once woody with maritime pines and warm through its plush interior. Granville reveals itself as a surprising fragrance between aromatic accords and woody accords.

Built on the cliffside, it is surrounded by pines and overlooks the sea. Inspired by this place so dear to the creator, François Demachy envisions a fresh, lively, aromatic fragrance, François Demachy tells us about Villa Les Rhumbs and the creation of his fragrance Granville.

François Demachy is not a perfumer who seeks ease, and with Granville he demonstrates this once again by not giving in to the temptation of aquatic or marine notes, preferring instead to evoke them through far more nuanced aromatic and citrus freshness. As with each of his fragrances, François Demachy of course went himself to gather from producers the finest raw materials for Granville.

Granville opens with winter-quality Sicilian lemon essence (the finest but also the most luxurious), paired with an essence of Spanish white thyme, which, according to François Demachy, gives the impression that one suddenly breathes better, along with a lovely Mediterranean rosemary. Then, pine absolute from the Grasse hinterland blended with gorse flower gives us a resinous, nervy, and also slightly smoky heart. Finally, we leave the freshness of the Normandy seaside to warm ourselves with woody base notes of sandalwood, touched with a few notes of black pepper.
