Eau de Rochas Homme is the Eau de Toilette that Rochas launched in 1993 as the masculine counterpart to the 1970 Eau de Rochas. Gilles Romey composed a citrus aromatic in which lime, bergamot and mandarin meet verbena and lavender, over a base of vetiver and cedar. Its raw glass bottle seems to bear the imprint of waves carved into rock.
Rochas opens the Eau de Toilette with a zest of lime, bergamot and mandarin. The heart unfolds on green, powerfully aromatic notes of verbena and lavender, and the base pairs the woody warmth of vetiver with the virility of cedar.
The house also speaks of a wave of sensations ranging from the most citrus to the most chypre. It evokes a thrill of bergamot, lemon, lime and mandarin, heightened by a hint of aromatics: coriander, basil, pine and mugwort.
A cologne with a chypre trail
The Eau de Toilette belongs among the citrus fragrances with a chypre facet. The freshness of the citrus rests on a trail of vetiver and cedar, which older descriptions from the house enriched with amber, musk and oakmoss.
Another description from the house places lemon and mandarin at the top, mugwort and lavender at the heart, vetiver and cedar at the base. There, mugwort takes the place that the detailed description gives to verbena.
What the label declares
The label declares limonene, linalool, citral, geraniol, citronellol, hydroxycitronellal and coumarin. Two UV filters, ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate and diethylamino hydroxybenzoyl hexyl benzoate, protect the formula, and BHT slows its oxidation.
