Nicolas Mamounas

While this house came into being in 1925, it has seen many artistic directors and perfumers succeed one another at its helm. This house was born as a couture house in 1925, the work of Marcel Rochas. It expanded internationally as early as 1937, the year that marked the opening of a first boutique in New York.

In the early 1940s, Marcel Rochas met his third and final wife, Hélène Rochas. She became his muse and notably the source of inspiration for one of the house's most iconic perfumes, Femme. However, the history of Rochas took a turning point in 1955. That year, Marcel Rochas died and it was his wife Hélène who took the helm of Parfums Rochas. She brought considerable growth to the house. To do so, she called upon the greatest perfumers of her generation, Guy Robert first, then Nicolas Mamounas. He was the perfumer for the house of Rochas between 1970 and 1987.

The greatest successes of Nicolas Mamounas

Over these 17 years spent at Rochas, Nicolas Mamounas crafted multiple successes. As soon as he arrived, he created Byzance, an oriental and spicy fragrance that he developed in association with Alberto Morillas. However, it was in 1970 that consecration arrived. Nicolas Mamounas is the father of the famous Eau de Rochas. A true icon of perfumery, it is a fresh and aromatic fragrance for women, still very much appreciated today. It then took until 1993 for it to be adapted into its masculine version. Similarly, Nicolas Mamounas is behind the perfumes Globe, Macassar, Mystère and also Lumière Original.

Little information has come to light about the prior career and training of Nicolas Mamounas. However, his name appears on the perfume Fleur de Nacré created in 1985 for Jennica.
