If for this Cuir Cannage the journey lies not in memory but rather in an iconic bag of the house, Lady Dior, the departure toward floral yet animalic powers transports us to another world, and it is indeed still that of Dior sophistication.
Cuir Cannage or the ode in fragrance to the famous Lady Dior bag
François Demachy has managed, with each of his creations, to impose a unique style between scents well known from Dior perfumes, abstract yet undeniably present flowers, and a flawless modernity that seeks to surprise with every new bottle. It is particularly within La Collection Privée, which he considers a recreation, that the perfumer exercises his fine creativity, surprising us with striking contrasts. Cuir Cannage is the pure product of this original talent with a boundless olfactory palette.
With Tonka Impériale (from the same collection) François Demachy had already created a surprise by offering a tonka bean as gourmand as it is bitter; with Cuir Cannage he succeeds in the wager of pairing sun-kissed, delicate flowers with leather and blond tobacco scents. He has said he drew inspiration for this boldness from the glove makers of Grasse, who slipped roses and jasmine into the precious leather of their gloves, so fine that a pair could fit inside a walnut shell. They would put rose and jasmine inside, whose scent would spread as the arms moved.
Striking contrasts between animalic and sun-kissed notes for an intense Cuir Cannage by Dior
It must be said, Cuir Cannage surprises, both through its boldness and through its scents, poised between an absolute femininity and animalic facets more customary of masculine fragrances than feminine ones. Cuir Cannage sets itself apart, to our great delight, with disconcerting ease from the usual fragrances of the house of Dior.
Cuir Cannage engages the senses, like an olfactory portrait suggested by intimate and subtly fragrant objects, protected by the finest of cannage leathers. In the Dior way. Dior on Cuir Cannage.
Cuir Cannage thus offers its beautiful light, opening toward the sun of orange blossom, which blends naturally with a lovely, dynamic and fresh citrus note. At the heart, sambac jasmine, rose and ylang-ylang enchant with their delicacy and sweet scents. This floral femininity is soon disrupted by wild, almost virile depths.
The famous Dior bag finally reveals itself through notes of leather, tobacco, cade and birch, propelled by an aromatic and fresh juniper. These rather animalic impulses are softened with powdery touches of precious violet and iris notes to nuance them with a hint of sweetness and sophistication—after all, we are still inside the bag of a Dior woman.
