Armani Code Colonia, a bold reinterpretation of a fougère
The fougère accord is one of the most commonly used in men's perfumery. What is more, its history is far from recent, since it is a fragrance accord created in 1882. In fact, fougère is one of the seven olfactory families in perfumery. This staple accord generally combines an opening of lavender with a floral and spicy heart of geranium, while resting on a woodier base of oak and coumarin. Here, Armani set itself the challenge of delivering the same sensation as a classic fougère while using different ingredients. Thus, Armani Code Colonia does contain the same spicy, fresh, aromatic and woody character, but does not achieve it in the way we are usually accustomed to. Code Colonia opens with the freshness of citrus. Its opening thus combines bergamot, lemon, bitter orange and mandarin. Then, the whole is enriched with the spicy character of pink pepper. This in turn echoes the presence of geranium. What is more, it is here paired with the floral aspect of heliotrope as well as that of orange blossom. Clary sage, for its part, brings the aromatic aspect to the whole. Finally, everything rests on a darker, more enveloping base of tonka bean.
