Classique Essence de Parfum, a femininity signed by Daphné Bugey
Jean-Paul Gaultier entrusted perfumer Daphné Bugey with the creation of this small masterpiece. Daphné Bugey is one of the rare perfumers not based in Grasse. A native of Grenoble, she fell in love with the perfumer's craft at age 12. A graduate of ISIPCA, Daphné Bugey was hired in 1997 by the company Firmenich. When asked about her first olfactory memory, she states that she remembers the scent of orange blossom that floated in the air or that could be found in the pastries in Algiers, where she spent her early childhood. Daphné Bugey has collaborated with numerous high fashion houses and is responsible for major successes such as Jeu d'Amour by Kenzo, Valentina Pink by Valentino, and more recently Aura by Thierry Mugler.

Daphné Bugey chose to open her composition with ginger, paired with aldehydes, for a more airy feel.
The earliest traces of ginger are found in India, around 3,000 years ago. Ginger is one of the first spices to have been imported to the Mediterranean basin. In ancient Egypt, ginger was used in the mummification process. In the Middle Ages, ginger, which was then very expensive, was used as a form of currency. Ginger was later used for its many medicinal properties. In perfumery, ginger is steam-distilled from cleaned, dried rhizomes. It releases spicy, soapy, zesty tonalities.
The heart of Classique Essence de Parfum is ultra luminous and radiant, combining orange blossom and jasmine. The name jasmine comes from the Persian yasmin and means gift of God. Native to the Himalayas, jasmine exists in more than 200 varieties. Its white flowers are dazzling and its scent is heady. Grown mainly in Grasse, jasmine is one of the most widely used flowers in perfumery, alongside rose. In perfumery, jasmine releases highly floral, fruity, delicate, powdery tonalities.
Finally, the base of Classique Essence de Parfum is powerful and original, combining whipped cream with vanilla and amber woods for a most sensual result. The famous bust-shaped bottle here takes on a radiant amber color.
