CK IN2U Her

Unveiled in New York in March 2007, CK IN2U Her is the women’s version of Calvin Klein’s first duo, designed for a generation that courts by text message. Loc Dong and Carlos Benaïm composed it: pink grapefruit, bergamot, and redcurrant leaves, sugared orchid and white cactus, over a base of amber, vanilla, and red cedar. Stephen Burks designed its glass and white plastic bottle.

The house classes CK IN2U Her among the fresh florientals: a sparkling opening of citrus and red berries, a floral, sugary heart, and an ambery, vanilla base. In 2007 it explained that the structure lets the heart and base come through within the first minutes, in step with a generation in a hurry.

Top, heart, and base

The top pairs a sparkling pink grapefruit with Sicilian bergamot and tart redcurrant leaves. In the heart, a sugared orchid accord meets white cactus; in the base, an amber the house calls “neon” joins a vanilla soufflé and red cedar.

The notes are filed here as follows: grapefruit, bergamot, and redcurrant in the top; orchid in the heart; amber, vanilla, and cedar in the base. The redcurrant leaves are filed under the name of the fruit; the white cactus and the sugar of the orchid accord have no heading of their own.

The neon amber

According to the 2007 description, this “neon” amber floods the fragrance from start to finish, before ending on the softness of the vanilla soufflé and on the red cedar, described as smoldering. The white cactus brings to the heart a nectar the house calls hypnotic.

What the label declares

The ingredient list published in Europe opens with denatured alcohol, water, and fragrance. Next come four UV filters, ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate, benzophenone-3, ethylhexyl salicylate, and avobenzone, which protect a juice tinted pale gold from light.

Propylene glycol, BHT, an antioxidant, an acrylates copolymer, and hydrolyzed jojoba esters complete the formula. Limonene, geraniol, linalool, citral, and coumarin appear as allergens that must be declared; there is neither lilial nor lyral.

Four colorants give the juice its tint: two yellows, CI 15985 and CI 19140, a red, CI 17200, and a green, CI 42053. European perfumeries publish this identical list today, from the United Kingdom to France.
