Champs-Elysées

Champs-Élysées: Sophie Marceau, one of the first faces of the Guerlain campaigns. The year 1996 marked a decisive turning point for Guerlain. Recently affiliated with the LVMH group, the house was no longer family-owned as it had been for a century and a half of perfume creation.

Nostalgic for its roots, Guerlain wished to pay tribute to its historical past by creating a fragrance dedicated to its legendary address: Champs-Élysées. The Champs-Élysées woman, sweet and sparkling, would embody the Guerlain spirit down to its most delicate scents.

Champs-Elysées: a fragrance of nostalgia illuminated by the Flower Woman

Pierre-François-Pascal Guerlain, Aimé Guerlain, Jacques Guerlain, Raymond Guerlain, Jean-Paul Guerlain: a saga of renowned perfumers trained one by one in the same spirit of rigor and excellence. Naturally, when such a family dynasty comes to an end, nostalgia takes hold. As a result, the new LVMH leadership, guided by Jean-Paul Guerlain, who remained the master of creation, proposed creating a new fragrance in reference to the legendary address at 68, Champs-Élysées, a true family haunt and the star boutique of Guerlain perfumery since 1904.

A light, spring-like ode to the Parisian woman whom the Guerlain family adores, Champs-Élysées offers a new breeze of floral freshness built around a luminous mimosa, a raw material never before used by the house. To embody this bold yet elegant city woman, the choice of Sophie Marceau as the face of the Champs-Élysées campaign (still rare in perfumery in 1996) came naturally.

Between mimosa and rose, Champs-Elysées does not choose!

The sublime Champs-Élysées aims to be charming, light and elegant, in the image of the sublime women who walk along this legendary avenue to enter the sumptuous Guerlain boutique. The bottle, wide and full, as if to better represent in glass the silhouette of a woman, also recalls, through its triangular form, the avenue’s most famous triangular view, whether that of the Arc de Triomphe or the Pei pyramid.

The house of Guerlain considers Champs-Élysées a “Fruity Musky Floral.” From the top notes, peach and melon offer their sweet, velvety scents leading into the floral heart. The powdery, delicate facets of mimosa play with the beautiful transparency of rose to illuminate the heart of Champs-Élysées. Lilac, lily of the valley and peony, accented with a touch of blackcurrant, act as embellishers within this floral symphony. Finally, the base notes of benzoin, sandalwood and vanilla, a light Guerlinade, bring beautiful exotic, gourmand sensuality to this Champs-Élysées fragrance, described as transparent, luminous, sparkling.

Champs-Élysées is a burst of crystalline laughter, a vibrant, luminous heart that exhales all the expertise of the two great perfumers Jacques Guerlain and Jean-Paul Guerlain, who was about to become the officially designated successor to his grandfather in 1996. Although the house of Guerlain had belonged to the LVMH group since 1994, Guerlain reaffirmed, with strength and elegance through Champs-Élysées, the deep convictions and values of a house soon to turn two hundred years old. For as the very first motto of the founder of Guerlain stated: Glory is fleeting, only renown endures.
