Belle de Jour joined La Collection Privée Christian Dior with the wave of new releases that came with its 2018 overhaul under the name Maison Christian Dior. François Demachy composed it. Dior files it among its fruity florals and describes it as a pear dessert: the roundness of the fruit, the freshness of rose accords, the velvet of a woody touch, and musky notes to soften it.
Dior does not break Belle de Jour down into tiers. The house files it among the fruity florals and names its materials: pear, for the roundness of the fruit; rose, for freshness; a woody touch, for velvet; deep musky notes, which soften it.
The tiers used here follow Richard Goller’s reading, on Fragroom in 2020: a rose with fruity accents plays the lead alongside the pear, while wood and powder hold the base. Musk joins the wood there, since the house calls it deep. No top note is attested.
Goller also smells peach next to the pear; Dior does not name it, so it stays out of the notes. The powdery facet he picks up in the base does not appear in Dior’s words either, which speak of velvet.
